Police have ID on suspect in Scotto’s robbery

Waynesboro Police have a suspect in the brazen armed robbery reported at Scotto’s Italian Restaurant on Sunday.
Douglas Eugene Barnes, 52, of Waynesboro, is wanted for armed robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony theft of a firearm and discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling.
The robbery at Scotto’s involved a man who reportedly held up staff after eating a meal at the restaurant.
Waynesboro Police are currently coordinating efforts to bring Mr. Barnes into custody with the Augusta County Sherriff’s Department as well as other agencies and have been conducting various operations overnight as well as currently.

Update: News release from Waynesboro Police Department, Thursday, 9:05 a.m.
Waynesboro officers assisted by Augusta County Sherriff’s Deputies were successful in locating and subsequently apprehending Douglas Eugene Barnes who had been the subject of an exhaustive 24 hour manhunt beginning Tuesday afternoon.
Barnes was taken into custody by deputies at approximately 5:30 P.M. yesterday evening without incident in the Raphine area of Augusta County near the Rockbridge County line. He is currently being held in the Middle River Regional Jail.
