Dan Bonner, calling tonight’s game for Fox SportsNet, to Cory Alexander in the press room a few minutes ago: “How did you hold it that long?”
Cory was the color commentator on the Raycom broadcast of the Maryland-Virginia Tech game in Blacksburg last night. A water-main break at Cassell Coliseum delayed the start of the game three hours, and there was no running water in the arena during the game.
Cory’s answer: “The second overtime was hard, man.”
Sylen Landesberg will not start tonight, and may not play, due to a thigh bruise.
That’s obviously horrible news for UVa.’s chances. That has to be a serious thigh bruise to keep Landesberg out of the lineup tonight.
Shawn Moore and Anthony Poindexter on the big screen at tipoff. Dex seems ready to run through a brick wall, as usual.
The crowd here is as bad with Duke fan infiltration as the Virginia Tech football home game was with Tech fan infiltration.
First media timeout-Duke 7, UVa.2, 15:46
Duke 3-6 FG
UVa. 0-5 FG
Where do the points come from with Landesberg on the sidelines? Rhetorical question.
UVa. is 1-of-10 from the field. Duke 13-4, 13:15/1st.
Channel 42 doesn’t show the UVA-Duke game coming on until 8:30. NBA game on now.
Just found it on Channel 19.
Ugh. Second media timeout-Duke 19, UVa. 4, 11:26/1st.
I’m sorry for you that you found it, Crystal. You’d be better off watching the public-access channel than subjecting yourself to this spectacle of an atrocity.
We’re going to need a Willis Reed moment out of young Mr. Landesberg to be able to make this at all interesting.
Third media timeout-Duke 27, UVa. 14, 6:53/1st.
Kyle Singler has 14 points for Duke. Virginia has … 14 points.
In other news: The UVa. women beat Virginia Tech on Senior Day 55-46 behind 27 points from Monica Wright. How this team wins next year without her is anybody’s guess. #1 UVa. baseball completed a three-game sweep of Rhode Island with an 8-5 win earlier today.
Fourth media timeout-Duke 31, UVa. 18, 2:56/1st.
Faint signs of life for the ‘Hoos. A minor (emphasis on minor) 4-0 run and another stop on the defensive end.
My halftime agenda: popcorn. Need me some popcorn.
And one for Sammy Z. Duke 35, UVa. 21, 30.2/1st. Let’s see if we can keep it at two touchdowns at the half.
Half-Duke 35, UVa. 21.
Halftime stats: Duke 12-28 FG (43 percent), UVa. 8-25 FG (32 percent).
Kyle Singler: 15 points
Jerome Meyinsse leads UVa. with 8 points. Mike Scott: 0 points.
I didn’t think it was possible to be less impressed with UVa. basketball than I was after the FSU game.
Jon Scheyer 3, 42-22 Duke. I’m not sure we get to 42 tonight.
It’s all about ball bearings these days.
So Sylven Landesberg is out of the lineup, and you need Mike Scott, the team’s second leading scorer, to step up. Scott has yet to score tonight.
I’m entertaining myself by reading the Washington Post Virginia Politics section. Way to go, Mr. Cuccinelli, sending Virginia back to the Stone Age in the employee-discrimination arena. That, and my car just hit a water buffalo.
This just in-UVa. hits the 30-point mark. Duke 54, UVa. 30, 8:45/2nd.
We won’t be staying late for the postgame. You’d probably guessed that already.
Jerome Meyinsse dunk. Duke 54, UVa. 34. Meyinsse has 16 points. Scott: scoreless.
At least it’s an early night. See you soon!
Hes 6-5, with the afro 6-9. 4 Million dollars a year sure..but he’s worth every penny.
Could’ve used Fletch tonight. He’d defend the post, at least.
