Stephanie Beverage was hard at it today, and true to her nature, she was on the front lines on her first day on the job as the new Waynesboro city treasurer, including a stint working the drive-through at City Hall this afternoon.

“It’s been very busy. I looked up, and it was 3 o’clock,” said Beverage, who takes office as treasurer today after winning the job in the November general elections.

“It’s been a fast day. A lot of note-taking, just getting familiar with the system, where everything is located in the office,” said Beverage, who unseated Sandee Dixon in a four-way race in November.

Dixon had come under fire for a series of negative local and state audits that raised issue with the lack of internal controls in the operations in the treasurer office. Job number one for Beverage will be to regain public trust in the office.

To that end, she has undertaken training opportunities afforded her, including a three-day training in Richmond early last month and another day trip to the state capital later this week.

Beverage is still working on the details of the fulfillment of two campaign promises – related to keeping the treasurer office open one night a week and one Saturday a month and outfitting the office to be able to accept payments by credit and debit card.
