I would advise the city “leaders” to clear to streets of snow before it tackles the sidewalk issue. The street I live on still have snow and ice on 40 % of the paved surface.

Generally, my experiance has been that most problems seem easy until you dig into them and understand all the constraints. Of course, though I don't think it's the case, the City could have a bunch of folks working for them that just aren't that smart.

Turning lanes and intersections should be something of a priority, though. It might not be that simple, agreed, but the idea should be passable and safe. I wouldn't expect perfection given the circumstances, but I would expect thought combined with good effort. I think we've had good effort, but I'm not so sure about the thought.

I ain't thinkin' it's that simple. They have to make the roads passible. Even Waynesboro will conceed that they should spend a little money on that. But I suspect it would take a lot of additional effort (especially once the cars begin using the roads) to get them completely clean.

Either do it right, or don't do it. Get the slush out of the turning lanes, or just save the money and effort and wait for it all to melt.

Just be glad you don't live in Charlottesville. You probably would have ended up camping out overnight in the Aquatic and Fitness Center.

On the one hand, the city wants to require folks to clean sidewalks after snowstorms. On the other hand, the city does a piss-poor job cleaning the streets, as in this storm. I just got back from driving to Wal-Mart (attempting to, anyway) to stock up on salt to clean the walkways around the home office. I can understand the paucity of effort on Church Street, which isn't a main road. But Rosser, Lew Dewitt and the turning lanes into Wal-Mart? The last snowflake fell 48 hours ago. Think we might be able to get the slush off the main roads?
