Wintergreen Resort received 30 inches of fresh snow from the weekend winter storm – a boon for winter-sports enthusiasts with the holidays approaching.
“If the forecast and our snowmaking equipment cooperate, we should have almost perfect skiing for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays,” said Hank Thiess, general manager of Wintergreen Resort.
Currently, the average snow base depth at the Nelson County ski resort is 24 to 36 inches.
Wintergreen’s website features a daily blue box update with up-to-the-minute reports on conditions (www.wintergreenresort.com/ski_and_ride/ski_report.aspx), as well as a complete listing of which runs are open.
For skiers and snowboarders, Wintergreen offers 26 slopes on 129 skiable acres. The resort features the region’s most extensive beginner-to-expert terrain, with 23 percent beginner, 35 percent intermediate and 42 percent expert. Fourteen slopes are lighted for night skiing and the resort’s longest run is 1.4 miles.
