Southern Virginia hands EMU men first loss

Southern Virginia overcame strong performances by former Waynesboro High School star Todd Phillips and former R.E. Lee star Eli Crawford to post a 92-79 win over Eastern Mennonite on Saturday.

The loss for the Royals was their first of the season after an 8-0 start.

A pair of Phillips free throws capped a 10-0 second-half run that gave EMU a 53-52 lead, but the Royals shot only 39 percent from the field in the second half.

Phillips led EMU with 19 points and eight rebounds. Crawford scored 16 for EMU.

Ade Swann was 13-14 from the free throw line for Southern Virginia and had a game high 28 points. Bryce Pendleton added 24.
