Scheyer, Harris get basketball accolades

Duke’s Jon Scheyer has been named ACC Player of the Week while Wake Forest’s C.J. Harris garnered ACC Rookie of the Week honors.

Scheyer was named Most Outstanding Player of the NIT Season Tip-Off tournament after leading the Duke to wins over Arizona State and No. 13 Connecticut. On the week, Scheyer averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.

The Northbrook, Ill., native had 16 points, six assists and four rebounds in a 64-53 semifinal win over Arizona State. Two nights later, the senior guard had a game-high 19 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals in Duke’s 68-59 championship game victory over Connecticut.

Harris, a 6-2, 175-pound freshman guard, averaged 16.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in Wake Forest’s two games last week and extended his double-digit scoring streak to three games. Harris has posted season-highs in points in each of his last three games.

In Tuesday’s 76-52 win over Winston-Salem State, the Winston-Salem native finished with 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting and pulled down a season-best five rebounds. Four nights later versus William & Mary, Harris was 5-for-10 from 3-point range en route to a team-high 17 points. On the season, Harris is shooting 56 percent from the floor and is currently second among ACC freshmen in scoring (11.8).
