    GO HOKIES!

  2. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 2:58 pm

I’m preparing myself to be agitated. The only good thing that will come out of today is it’s Groh’s last. Knowing my luck - UVA will start strong and get my heart in it and then blow it and I’ll be miserable and the people around me will be miserable the rest of the day.

“I picked an awful time to stop sniffing glue . . .”

Remember last year. We led at halftime, which forced me to make a call between being late for the JMU playoff game or staying and watching us blow the Tech game in the second half. I of course chose to be late to the JMU game, and we of course blew the Tech game in the second half.

  4. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:03 pm

Lunch-meat loaf, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls. Really good.

  5. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:04 pm

Yup - remember it well. The Vic Hall experiment - lasted one half.

“Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines . . .”

Lots of burgundy in the house.

“Looks like I picked the wrong week to snop sniffing airplane glue.”

  8. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:08 pm

That’s one of the reason’s I’m home. I hate drunken celebrating masses of maroon.

“Do you know what it’s like to fall in the mud and get kicked… in the head… with an iron boot? Of course you don’t, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that’s a dumb question… skip that. “

  9. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:09 pm

“Let’s go Hokies!” chant erupts. Deafening.

  10. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:12 pm

It’s embarrassing that we can’t keep out the rif raf. UVA Sports Leadership did this to us when they offered the ACC package of three ACC games including VA Tech. Try to make money and embarrass your home team.

“The hell I don’t. LISTEN KID. I’ve been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I’m out there busting my buns every night. Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes. “

  11. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:15 pm

Yay! Home game for my HOKIES … glad lunch was delicious. I’m sure that will be the highlight of your day. Is it freezing there?

  12. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:17 pm

Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?

  13. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:23 pm

Chris what would you say the breakdown is on fans? 50/50 or more Tech fans?

  14. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:23 pm

We should have George Welsh raise the Power of Orange flag.

  15. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:23 pm

It’s about 50-50. Lots of maroon.

  16. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:24 pm

I am awaiting the cheer greeting the Hokies.

  17. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:24 pm

The heat lamps are on in the press box. Yay!

  18. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:25 pm

I walked the sidelines for about a half-hour before the game. It reminds you how damn big the players are. And also how high the punters can kick the ball in the air.

  19. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:26 pm

    10 minutes to kickoff.

  20. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:26 pm

OH and Chris I thought you’d get a kick out of this–Wake Forest ran a fumblerooski today.

  21. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:28 pm

Awesome! And I missed it. Damn!

  22. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:29 pm

We might run a fumblerooski or two today. Not intentionally, but …

  23. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:30 pm

Having said that, it is nice to see the place filled up with football fans.

  24. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:30 pm

We’ll at least win the Adventures of Cavman.

  25. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:31 pm

Yay! Game on TV … first mention of there may be no ninth season for head coach at uva next year.

  26. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:31 pm

Go Hoos and getta outta town, Al!!

  27. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:31 pm

Our next home game will also be full because of the optimism a new coaching staff brings.

  28. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:31 pm

Nice Having Said That … reference.

  29. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:32 pm

TV commentators say it is time for change at helm at UVA.

  30. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:33 pm

Jay, you would have loved Adventures of Cavman. The Hokie Bird had a flashback to 2007 and the fist bump at midfield. Cavman fistbumped Hokie Bird into a Butterball processing plant. Looks like somebody got the message.

  31. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:33 pm

Surprise - the loud, lusty boos of UVa. fans drowned out the cheers for Tech.

  32. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:34 pm

Thanks for noticing the “having said that” reference.

  33. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:34 pm

I know but this guy has no flying experience at all. He’s a menace to himself and everything else in the air… yes, birds too.

  34. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:34 pm

Not an empty seat. Hill packed.

  35. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:35 pm

Joey, have you ever been in a Turkish bath?

  36. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:35 pm

Raising the Power of Orange flag - Aaron Brooks and Ahmad Hawkins.

  37. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:36 pm

    I was there that day.

  38. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:36 pm

I want to friggin’ tackle somebody!

  39. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:37 pm

    Final score prediction: 31-7 Tech.

  40. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:38 pm

How appropriate - the row in front of me is packed with Tech fans. Who are standing.

  41. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:39 pm

    Final score prediction: 24-10 Hokies!

  42. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:40 pm

    He’s got it by a half-yard.

  43. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:40 pm

  44. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:40 pm

  45. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:41 pm

Final Score Prediction - UVA 16, Tech 13

  46. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:41 pm

    So says the hubby…

  47. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:41 pm

And that’s another cavalier FIRST DOWN!!

  48. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:41 pm

    How tall is Sewell?

  49. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:42 pm

I knew those bastards would rope me into thinking maybe, just maybe there is a chance at a miracle. After so many years you think I’d know better.

  50. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:43 pm

The idiots in front of me are jingling their keys. Make it stop, God! Make it stop!

  51. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:43 pm

And that’s another cavalier FIRST DOWN!!!!!!!!!!

All right, I’m going to level with you all. But what’s most important now is that you remain calm. There is no reason to panic.

  52. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:44 pm

Start dropping your drinks on them. Act like it was an accident… ;)

  53. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:45 pm

    Touchdown!!!!!!!

  54. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:45 pm

Bad news. The fog’s getting thicker.
Johnny: [jumps to an overweight controller] And Leon is getting laaaaarrrrrger.

  55. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:45 pm

What was that??? I’m not used to seeing that!!

  56. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:45 pm

I just broke the rule for cheering in the press box. By the way.

  57. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:45 pm

Sigh…I just KNOW I’m going to be let down now. Go ‘Hoos though!

  58. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:46 pm

And blatantly, too. Like, if they saw me, they’d kick me out of here.

  59. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:46 pm

I’m going to need a paper bag. I can’t breathe!

  60. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:46 pm

    CHEER AWAY BABY

    BTW - I’m wearing my AFP huddie . . .

  61. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:47 pm

Having said that, the nice people in front of me have put their keys away and are now sitting down.

  62. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:47 pm

They are probably glad someone is still excited about UVA football in the pressbox. I don’t think they will scold you too much!

  63. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:48 pm

leg ‘er down a smack ‘em yak ‘em!

  64. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:49 pm

  66. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:49 pm

Good cal, ref. Obviously a block in the whatever.

  67. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:50 pm

    Great catch

  68. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:51 pm

Third-and-long. Right where they want us.

  69. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:52 pm

Do the Hokies pull out their keys for offensive plays?

  70. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:52 pm

    HOLDING

  71. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:52 pm

Good call, ref. Obvious holding call.

  72. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:53 pm

Ras-I has had better days. Obviously.

  73. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:53 pm

    Um, hello, DEFENSE???

  74. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:53 pm

It’s too bad Taylor can’t throw a good pass

  75. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:54 pm

Dowling is getting eaten alive by a slow white guy.

  76. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:54 pm

Thankfully, VT is offensive and foul. Hee hee.

  77. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:54 pm

We’re playing man, thinking Ras-I can stop Danny Freakin’ Coale man.

  78. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:55 pm

This will be the TD play.

  79. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:56 pm

    Ryan Williams 5-yard TD run.

  80. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:56 pm

    Wasn’t expecting a shoot out

  81. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:56 pm

    GOBBLE, GOBBLE, GOBBLE, GOBBLE!

  82. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:57 pm

If we can’t stop Danny Coale, this is going to be a long day.

  83. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 3:57 pm

    NC State beat UNC. Wow.

  84. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:02 pm

    FIRST DOWN

  85. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:03 pm

I think we’ll take the play.

  86. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:04 pm

UVA fans should be wearing blue today–they’re looking like Tech fans…

  87. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:04 pm

You know Hall is going to run it, and he still gets seven yards.

  88. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:04 pm

Bud Foster on TV - looks mad

  89. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:05 pm

Jingle your stupid keys, that’s a Cavalier first down!

  90. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:06 pm

Was a nice no-call late hit on Sewell on that last pass play.

  91. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:06 pm

    Here comes the pic . . .

  92. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:07 pm

Burd ran the wrong route. Damn!

  93. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:07 pm

And there is the Sewell I love. Wide open guy in the end zone and he overthrows him by 5 yards.

    I won’t miss that.

  94. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:08 pm

    Field goal good. UVa. 10-7.

Burd ran the wrong route. He ran the deep slant, which would have been covered. He should have run the corner. That was wide open. Burd couldn’t adjust in time. If he runs the right route, it’s an easy TD.

  97. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:10 pm

    Sewell: 7 carries, 91 yards, 1 TD

  98. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:10 pm

Sewell’s career high rushing: 92 yards

  99. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:11 pm

Might want to plug the hole in the middle of the kick coverage.

  100. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:11 pm

    End 1-UVa. 10, Virginia Tech 7

  101. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:12 pm

  102. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:13 pm

John Casteen III congratulates the winners ot today’s Fourth-Year 5K. Which isn’t nearly as jocular as a football game.

  103. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:14 pm

William and Mary 24, Weber State 0, 4th quarter
They beat us earlier this year.

  104. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:15 pm

That game wasn’t very jocular, either.

  105. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:16 pm

Chris Cook was wide open on that one.

  106. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:16 pm

You will not get the first down!

  107. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:17 pm

    Watch the puntrooskie!

  108. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:17 pm

Did we actually hold them on that one? WTF!

  109. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:18 pm

Yup - reel me in - get me excited. This can’t be good for me in the long run . . .

  110. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:18 pm

I’m going to have to ask the sports-information staff to go back in the record books to find out the last time we had a lead and stopped somebody from scoring.

  111. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:19 pm

Enjoy it while it lasts, man.

  112. Brian Rostron on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:19 pm

Oh yeah, the Fourth-Year Fifth. Perhaps if Al Groh were allowed to stay around longer, then that tradition might stage a comeback.

  113. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:19 pm

A Tech defender might fall down, we get another touch, and then we can blow the second half in spectacular fashion. Hey, it’s happened.

  114. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:20 pm

Things are getting back to normal. We ran the student-body right for a yard on first down. Looks like we’re trying to run the clock out already.

  115. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:21 pm

Yes, this makes sense. Let’s hurry up and punt.

  116. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:21 pm

This looks like the patented 3 and out I’ve gotten used to. Welcome back old friend.

  117. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:22 pm

    That’s a fumble

  118. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:22 pm

“We can’t stand prosperity.” That is being said right now somewhere in Central Virginia.

  119. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:22 pm

There we go. Punt to a short field and let Va Tech score…if it goes the way the first 11 games have gone.

  120. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:22 pm

    kick it quick

  121. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:22 pm

Plug the damn hole in the middle of the kick coverage.

  122. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:23 pm

I’d also like to point out that our punt and kick coverage is really, really bad.

    Really.

  123. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:23 pm

Here’s where we need to put in some defense. Not that we’re going to, but it might be a good idea…

  124. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:24 pm

Ras-I Dowling: “I can’t cover Danny Coale. Put me on Boone.”

  125. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:24 pm

WILL ANYONE COVER THAT DAMNED WHITE BOY MY GOD

  126. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:24 pm

Pass coverage defense? Has that ever been used at UVA??

  127. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:25 pm

Geez, wrap it up with a bow already…

  128. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:25 pm

    There goes my scoring prediction

  129. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:26 pm

Well, that was a well-timed three-and-out setting up a short field for a Tech TD. It’s his last game, it’s his last game, it’s his last game …

  130. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:26 pm

Knew I’d be disappointed, so here it starts.

I had predicted 38-10 Tech before the game, so we are on track for that.

  131. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:27 pm

Taylor: 3-3 passing, 89 yards. All to Danny Coale. Who is being covered by Ras-I Dowling.

Yo, Ras, seriously, I wouldn’t expect a postcard from the scouting combine.

  132. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:28 pm

Now the idiots in front of me are into the game again. Wonderful.

  133. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:29 pm

    Crappy return.

  134. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:29 pm

We’ve still got some fight left

  135. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:29 pm

So, Al, couldn’t run the clock out with 12 minutes to go in the second quarter. Might we try some offense again?

  136. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:29 pm

Are they jingling again? Get your cold drink ready to accidentally pour on them.

  137. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:30 pm

    Er, well, no, guess not.

  138. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:31 pm

    WHAT???? HE CAUGHT THAT BALL!!!

  139. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:31 pm

Too bad - just couldn’t hold on

  140. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:31 pm

Dang, he let go when he was on the ground… :P

  141. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:32 pm

He dropped it, but invoking the new rule from the Miami game, they could call pass interference.

  142. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:32 pm

That’s better. Another three-and-out. That’s the UVa. I know and love.

  143. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:32 pm

If we have to throw - we’re in trouble

  144. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:32 pm

Gary said that the Tech guy kneed him in the chest and that’s why he let go of the ball.

  145. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:33 pm

    Yay - no return

  146. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:33 pm

Well, keep up the updates because someone here in charge of the remote is flipping…

  147. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:34 pm

Okay things are back to normal now. Fantastic offensive series of 0 yards gained. I guess a lot of those is why were are 118th in total yards per game.

    It’s his last game.

  148. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:34 pm

The Sewell who overshot that pass is the one we won’t miss. Yikes. The receiver ran a great route.

  149. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:35 pm

    TURNOVER - TD UVA
    WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  150. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:36 pm

That will teach you to change the channel :)

  151. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:37 pm

That ball is rolling around there a little bit on the replay.

  152. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:37 pm

I also kind of hope this is Dowling’s last game too. My goodness.

  153. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:37 pm

    Ball clearly on the ground.

  154. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:38 pm

Ball clearly on the ground! Morons!

  155. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:38 pm

What the hell is replay for?

  156. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:38 pm

Taylor has 521 yards on 5 completions I think.

  157. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:39 pm

    That’s a base hit in a baseball game, that’s all I’m saying.

  158. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:39 pm

With all the maroon in the stadium the officials got confused and thought it was Blacksburg

  159. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:39 pm

Thanks, Jeff, you made him switch back. :)

  160. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:39 pm

    Watch the fieldgoalrooskie!

  161. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:40 pm

    No good!

  162. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:40 pm

    Nuunan
    Miss it

  163. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:40 pm

Not much leg on that one. Barely made it the 40 yards.

  164. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:41 pm

Now GIVE ME ANOTHER 3 AND OUT. Please deliver!

  165. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:41 pm

Whoo-hoo!! That was a nice non field goal. :) Should we sing the good old song for that?? ;)

  166. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:41 pm

    Nice 2-yard gain there.

  167. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:42 pm

OK, so Hall is in the backfield, he’s going to run. Even Tech can figure that out, right?

  168. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:42 pm

There’s no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you’ll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

  169. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:43 pm

    Hmmm reverse psychology maybe.

Now give me a 3 and out please!

  170. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:44 pm

I guess horse-collar tackles are OK in college.

  171. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:44 pm

    That looked bad

  172. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:44 pm

Commentators just said that we had a total of 27 yards of possession per game which is the lowest in the league.

  173. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:45 pm

That hurt me and I was only watching…

  174. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:45 pm

OK, it’s third-and-short, we’re going to run a QB draw. Even Tech can figure that out, right?

  175. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:45 pm

Be great if we could eat clock and score

  176. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:45 pm

Simpson is running too gingerly. Somebody take his helmet, please.

  177. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:46 pm

    Let’s Wildcat this one.

  178. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:47 pm

My fault. I called the Wildcat.

  179. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:47 pm

We should go for it. Why not?

  180. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:47 pm

We’re going to fake this one.

  181. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:47 pm

Are you saying we need to go rogue?? ha ha

  182. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:47 pm

    Kentucky, Massachusettes, Penn

  183. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:48 pm

There was commotion in the box next to me. Damn!

  184. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:48 pm

    (Answer to trivia question)

  185. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:49 pm

Florida is waxing Fla. State as expected.

  186. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:49 pm

Unfortunately, this kid isn’t guaranteed from this distance.

  187. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:49 pm

I am serious… and don’t call me Shirley.

  188. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:50 pm

I just heard - 17-0 Florida. Expected. Still, they have fallen. I mean, we’re bad, but we were never as good as they were.

  189. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:50 pm

No way we fake it now.

  190. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:50 pm

OK, good! Virginia Tech 14, UVa. 13.

  191. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:51 pm

I’m going to take a shower and brush my teeth - be back for the 2nd half

  192. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:51 pm

Well we’ve played decently in the first half in several games, then smoked crack at halftime. We’ll see what happens today.

  193. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:51 pm

I’m sure we were set for a fake before we ran out of time on the play clock.

  194. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:52 pm

Do they call blocks in the back on kick returns anymore? Because that one was right in front of three refs and God!

  195. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:52 pm

The life of everyone on board depends upon just one thing: finding someone back there who can not only fly this plane, but who didn’t have fish for dinner.

  196. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:53 pm

Classy, ‘Rod. Throw the ref out under the bus.

  197. Brian Rostron on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:54 pm

Well, the important thing is that Cal still has the Axe. And honorary Stanford captain Tiger Woods was apparently so devastated by being booed at halftime of the Big Game that his life has fallen apart in one short week.

  198. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:55 pm

    Yay–penalty against Tech.

  199. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:55 pm

Time out with seven point eight seconds to go??? Why?

  200. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:57 pm

    Total yards-
    Virginia Tech 207
    UVa. 199

    Time of possession-
    UVa. 18:42
    Tech 11:10

  201. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:58 pm

That was a late hit. No reason for it. They get one more play. Yikes!

  202. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:59 pm

Groh is berating the ref–not good form…

  203. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 4:59 pm

    Yikes …
Half: Virginia Tech 14, UVa. 13

  204. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:00 pm

Put away the crack pipes at halftime please.

  205. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:18 pm

Good cupcakes in the press box at halftime.
Back in my seat on the front row of press row. Now putting coat on. It’s officially freezing damn cold here.

  206. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:20 pm

I saw Mike Burnip in the restroom at halftime. He, like Beamer, like Foster, was making some halftime adjustments.

  207. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:20 pm

MMM, I’m having chocolate cravings at the moment. A chocolate cupcake would go down nicely.

I’ll hope the guys in front of you somehow misplace their keys in the bathroom during halftime. ;)

  208. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:20 pm

Good adjustment there. The middle is no longer wide open on the kick return.

  209. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:21 pm

That’s Ron Prince earning his salary!

  210. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:21 pm

    Good first half stats
If we could stop the 30 yard bombs - we’d be OK

  211. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:21 pm

We really need a 3 and out

  212. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:21 pm

Let’s hope Ras-I made an adjustment or two.

  213. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:22 pm

Did the announcer just say Dowling was busy breaking up passes in the first half?

  214. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:23 pm

    Three-and-out.

  215. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:23 pm

    YEAHHHHHH BABY

  216. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:24 pm

Chris - how was the halftime meal? Halftime journalist chat?

  217. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:24 pm

Dowling was busy tackling Coale after he caught long passes in the first half.

  218. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:24 pm

Wow, Florida beating FL State 24-zip…

  219. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:25 pm

    I’d Wildcat right now.

  220. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:26 pm

Screen pass, get back to midfield, punt.

  221. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:26 pm

    Or …

  222. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:27 pm

    Safe . . .

  223. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:27 pm

That was a fine series of plays after some good gains.

  224. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:27 pm

If you’re going to run third-and-22, you should be able to gain a damn yard or two.

  225. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:28 pm

Is it me - or is that just a stupid commercial

  226. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:29 pm

Apparently, the coaching staff (seated next to me) thinks Sewell should have been able to read the safety blitz on second down. I don’t disagree. Everybody on the field except for Sewell and our receivers seemed to be aware that Tech was sending the entire house.

  227. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:29 pm

I have a TV (no sound) above me here in the press box. I’ll try to keep up.

  228. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:30 pm

    The AFLAC one with shoes?

  229. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:30 pm

Big #98 Nate Collins with the play!

  230. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:30 pm

Good coverage downfield on that one.

  231. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:31 pm

Windows 7 w/ Facebook and Excel spreadsheet

  232. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:31 pm

    Ras I pick coming

  233. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:31 pm

Well it was pretty clear. Not sure how he didn’t see them coming. From 20 yards away, right at him, full speed. I won’t miss that either.

  234. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:32 pm

    Yeah, that was lame.

  235. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:32 pm

They should run more option. We don’t seem to be cognizant of the fact that they have those plays in their playbook.

  236. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:32 pm

not sure why they don’t run that more - we have no answer for it

  237. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:33 pm

That time Danny Coale burned Chris Cook. At least he’s equal opportunity in making our supposedly top-flight corners look embarrasingly bad.

  238. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:33 pm

    Why aren’t they covering Coale?

  239. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:34 pm

What exactly are we doing in the secondary? I don’t think the players know either, which is probably a lot of the problem.

  240. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:34 pm

That kid has more receiving yards than our WRs all season it feels like. And he was recruited out of our backyard?

  241. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:34 pm

Taylor checked to a simple slant on that one. He liked that matchup. For obvious reasons.

  242. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:35 pm

Did I talk down Chris Cook? Sorry!

  243. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:35 pm

    Whhhhheeeeeeeewwwwww . . .

  244. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:35 pm

    You da man, Chris!

  245. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:35 pm

Finally, some defense on VA’s part!!

  246. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:37 pm

Don’t know what Taylor was thinking there. I was watching the secondary from the snap. There was nobody open downfield. Don’t know what Stinespring was thinking on that play call. I didn’t see a safety valve for Taylor to dump off to.

Having said that, Chris Cook was open in the end zone.

  247. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:37 pm

What are the Hokies in the row in front of you doing now?

  248. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:38 pm

    Score update,

    Florida 30, FSU 0

  249. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:38 pm

Did anybody catch the name on that truck?

  250. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:39 pm

Conversely, we don’t seem to run the option so well.

  251. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:39 pm

That is what happens to Va every year

  252. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:40 pm

    Well there starts the landslide.

  253. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:40 pm

I don’t know if we have the fortitude to survive this . . .

  254. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:40 pm

    Ugh.

  255. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:40 pm

Yeah, I’m hearing some bad language in our room at the moment…

  256. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:41 pm

    Ryan Williams 6-yard TD.

  257. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:41 pm

    Gobble. Gobble. Gobble. Gobble.

  258. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:41 pm

    And the Hokie chant begins

  259. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:42 pm

This is typical. We’ve given them two short fields, and they’ve converted them. Credit to Tech, it’s efficient football. You don’t need to move the ball up and down the field, but you do need to convert when you get the chance. And they create chances for themselves.

  260. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:43 pm

    “Let’s Go! Hokies!”
    Deafening.
    Thanks, Al, for your service.

  261. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:43 pm

So, Chris, are we switching allegiance to Tech or do we stay the course?

  262. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:43 pm

    Taylor: 7-13, 175 yards, 1 TD

  263. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:43 pm

No way we score 8 more points. That would be three field goals for us, and I don’t think we can do that while holding Tech in check. Pretty much the same as the last 3 Tech games. UVa plays decently, has a chance to win, but has bad luck or does something stupid that makes the game unwinnable.

It’s Groh’s last game. I keep telling myself that.

  264. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:44 pm

I will root for Duke basketball before I root for Tech football. And Duke basketball is evil.

  265. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:45 pm

I think we can score 8 - I just don’t know if we have mistake free in our future . . .

  266. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:45 pm

I will root for Duke basketball, the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys before I root for Tech football.

  267. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:45 pm

I will vote for Sarah Palin before I root for Tech football.

  268. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:46 pm

I hope UVA is more resilient than my confidence in them.

  269. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:47 pm

I will slap hands with Frank Lucente before I root for Tech football.

  270. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:47 pm

    Had to go Palin . . .

  271. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:47 pm

    Gotcha!!

CDP saying that Boise State head coach Chris Petersen is the leading contender for UVA’s next football coach.

  272. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:48 pm

Trying to figure out the holding call - didn’t see it at all

  273. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:50 pm

    What is CDP?

  274. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:50 pm

Wow, more hatred for Tech than Duke. I had no idea.

  275. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:50 pm

Not Sewell’s fault. Question - why play-action on third-and-10? They weren’t fooled, and weren’t going to be. All that does is give their pass rushers more time to tee off. Dumb.

  276. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:51 pm

I guess special teams and turnovers do make a difference . . .

  277. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:51 pm

    C’ville Daily Regress um, Progress

  278. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:51 pm

Big series here. If Tech runs time and gets a score, we’re done. And that’s how this is setting up.

  279. Andrew Clem on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:52 pm

FIfe’s original prediction seems to be borne out, over and over again. U.Va. wasted a perfect opportunity to reverse the momentum with that end-zone interception, raising our hopes, and then promptly fumbled it right back to the Hokies, who did not waste their opportunity. D’oh!

  280. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:53 pm

I’d love to have Boise State coach (and field, and record, and recruiting). I wouldn’t leave Boise for UVA - don’t care how much you paid me.

  281. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:53 pm

Hatred for Tech>Hatred for Duke. No question. Why? Tech fans can be quite obnoxious. I only know one Duke fan, and he’s innocuous.

  282. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:53 pm

    Incomplete!!

  283. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:54 pm

    Hope he’s OK

  284. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:54 pm

Clemson fans = VA Tech fans They are both EXTREMELY obnoxious…

  285. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:54 pm

    But doesn’t return . . .

  286. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:55 pm

We obviously have no spy assigned to shadow Taylor on pass plays.

  287. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:55 pm

What? Why can’t you TACKLE the guy with the ball. It’s what you are SUPPOSED to do…

  288. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:56 pm

Maryland fans, by far, are the most obnoxious. And for no good reason, either.

  289. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:58 pm

I have little love for Carolina fans, come to think of it. Clemson fans - hayseeds, sure, but they haven’t had much to be haughty about of late.

  290. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:58 pm

The all-time worst are Radford fans. Who can’t even get the initials of their school in the right order half the time.

  291. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 5:59 pm

    Oh stewardess! I speak jive.

  292. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:00 pm

Yes - we do get confused sometimes . . .

  293. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:00 pm

One more quarter of Al Groh!

  294. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:00 pm

When I did concessions for the C’ville Jaycees, I had to ride the bus back to U-Hall with a bunch of Clemson fans after we lost the game to them. They were awful. I still hold a grudge to this day.

  295. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:00 pm

Best news of the holiday season so far . . .

  296. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:00 pm

And then there’s “wide left!” and “wide right!”

  297. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:01 pm

    Good catch

  298. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:01 pm

The ball was rolling around in there. Of course, he plays for Tech, so this will be ruled a catch.

  299. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:02 pm

His feet were down, but then the ball was moving as he hit the ground. No catch.

  300. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:02 pm

    Yup, you were right, Chris.

  301. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:03 pm

BS. Sorry. No point in reviewing plays if you’re not going to get them right. Junk the system. It doesn’t work.

  302. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:03 pm

    The first time.

  303. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:04 pm

Over-under on how many questions it takes us in the press conference to get to, “So, Al, was this your last game in Charlottesville?”

  304. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:04 pm

The red zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the white zone.

  305. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:04 pm

    Gobble. Gobble. Let’s go Hokies

  306. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:05 pm

    My call: two.

  307. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:05 pm

I take solace in the knowledge that Tech at 9-3 gets to play for the 900th time in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. So … big deal.

  308. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:06 pm

I’m going to go eat dinner with the family. I’ll check back in later. I just heard my dog barking incessantly which means someone is over. If that is my Va Tech loving next door neighbor - I’m going to defecate in his front yard when walking my dog tonight.

  309. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:06 pm

I feel a runback for a TD on the kickoff here.

    Or a fumble.

    They are both equally likely.

Less than one quarter of Al Groh left.

Our next win against Tech will be in 2013. You heard it here first.

  310. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:06 pm

Today’s attendance: 58,500-something. Surprise. Couldn’t even sell ‘er out with a stadium full of Hokies.

  311. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:07 pm

    At least we’re not FSU . . .

  312. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:08 pm

True, we did score a few points.

  313. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:08 pm

2013 … that would make it 14-of-15 for Tech before we win another one. Hammer, meet nail.

  314. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:10 pm

    2nd-and-2, 3rd-and-7

  315. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:11 pm

Why not go for it there? What the hell is the difference?

  316. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:11 pm

So, none of our predictions were close…

  317. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:11 pm

Naturally, then a third-down play that had no chance of picking up the first down, then a punt.

Can we borrow the gong from “The Gong Show” and take care of this virtual execution live on the field? And can I bang the gong?

  318. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:12 pm

What was that punt, 17 yards?

Chris please be the first person to ask a question in the press conference, and ask him this: “So Al, do you have any applications in at McDonalds? You’ll obviously need a job after today.”

  319. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:13 pm

Get it on, bang the gong, get it on

  320. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:14 pm

Indeed, why not go for it there? Memo to Al: They’re firing your ass after the game! Go for it, punt it, whatever - you’re done! Show that you still have a set and try to win!

The spread was 16. Are we trying to keep it under for the bookies?

  321. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:14 pm

Technically, I said Tech would win by two touchdowns … that could still happen - even though the score was off. Here’s what I would say … UVa. played pretty well today. Sewell did well. If they had played this well every game, they could have beat some of the teams they lost to.

  322. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:14 pm

I hope Chris didn’t throw anything on that play.

  323. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:15 pm

And that play epitomizes both teams.

  324. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:15 pm

    That’s a TD.

  325. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:15 pm

Are Viginia fans booing Chris? Goodness I hope so.

  326. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:15 pm

The boos I heard on TV after Al’s decison to punt were loud - AND I heard a fan loudly say … Why not try to win it, AL?

  327. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:17 pm

That play epitomizes how far the UVa. football program has fallen. Dick Bestwick is embarrassed. Sonny Randle is embarrassed.

  328. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:18 pm

Kids, remember, the next coaching staff is watching this tape to see who gave up and who kept playing.

  329. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:19 pm

Just one - one shot at a deep ball. Just one. That’s all I ask.

  330. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:20 pm

That was great!! The ref was giving the call and a player was walking towards him and he just shoved him out of the way!

  331. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:20 pm

    With one hand!

  332. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:20 pm

Punt! Wait. Only third down. Punt anyway!

  333. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:21 pm

Crystal is guessing that hubby will need Starbucks and much consoling tonight … but I’m guessing the good news will come tomorrow: Time for change at UVa.

  334. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:22 pm

    Score update:

    Florida 37, FSU 3

  335. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:22 pm

I need no consoling. I expected little, and though it didn’t meet my expectations, I still had halftime cupcakes!

  336. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:23 pm

That said, my feet are cold.

  337. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:23 pm

The good news will come at 1pm tomorrow.

I swear I bet Chris and I could do as good a job coaching that team, and we’d only need like 10% of what makes. The utter and complete lack of 2nd half adjustments all year has been astounding.

  338. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:23 pm

Noise in the box next to me. Coaches putting the finishing touches on their resumes.

  339. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:24 pm

I think Groh to save his skin after this game should have chartered a helicopter that would drop down a ladder so he could leave without getting too much injury.

  340. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:24 pm

I bet you are freezing … but yes, halftime cupcakes. That makes the trip to Charlottesville worth it! I wish I had cupcakes.

  341. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:25 pm

I think we should start a Website to hire Chris … like you said, he’d work for peanuts and I bet he’d be awesome.

  342. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:25 pm

Me too, Crystal and I just had birthday cake a little while ago…

  343. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:26 pm

It was a neighbor just not the Hokie one. I’m still going to defecate in his yard . . .

  344. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:26 pm

I want cake! Maybe Chris will confiscate a cupcake for me!

  345. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:27 pm

There are so many places in big cities (that my friends who live in big cities rave about) that sell cupcakes only. I want to get locked in after hours at a place like that so I could eat my fill.

  346. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:27 pm

Striker, listen, and you listen close: flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.

  347. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:28 pm

We couldn’t do any worse, Jay. I mean, we wouldn’t allow a loss to W&M, for example.

If they paid me $200K, I could win win them three games.

  348. Fife on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:28 pm

Can we demonstrate any type of back bone?

  349. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:29 pm

We might go 0-9 against Virginia Tech, but they paid Groh $20 million to go 1-8. We’d be much more cost-effective.

  350. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:29 pm

Ha ha, the announcers just mentioned that loss to W&M.

  351. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:32 pm

If games were only two quarters, UVA would do so much better. Not sure what they do at halftime, but they just don’t play well in the second half.

  352. Jay on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:32 pm

Give me a call tomorrow Chris. Sometime after the announcement at 1pm.

  353. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:33 pm

Maybe Al Groh will announce his retirement tonight and save everyone having to wait until tommorrow …

  354. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:34 pm

    Will do, Jay.

Good news on the horizon, at least.

Hey, maybe he does it tonight.

  355. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:34 pm

Are UVA fans still there? Or filing out fast?

  356. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:36 pm

I have two friends that are still there and I’m not counting Chris.

  357. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:38 pm

Come on guys, don’t be stupid!

  358. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:39 pm

Scrum on the field. No need for this. They’re kicking our ass.

  359. Brian Rostron on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:39 pm

    No mo’ Groh.

  360. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:39 pm

Having said that, if these jerks in front of me don’t shut their yappers, there’s going to be a scrum up here.

  361. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:41 pm

    All of a sudden we’re looking good with 1 minute 55 left…

  362. Julz on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:41 pm

    Damn, I jinxed them!!

  363. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:42 pm

I’m glad these yahoos down in front of me can spell. They probably made dean’s list.

  364. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 6:43 pm

Be nice - Chris Graham. Enjoy the news conference. Maybe UVA fans will start a GOODBYE chant … odds on that one?

    She’s at the game too.

  368. chrisgraham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 7:22 pm

Groh hasn’t resigned yet. But his wife and daughter were in the media room afterward, and all were in tears when Al read a poem at the end of the press conference about the man in the mirror.

  369. Crystal Graham on Sat, 28th Nov 2009 7:30 pm

Al read a poem … wow. I wouldn’t have expected that. Even if he couldn’t win football games, I’ve been told he is a nice guy and I’m sure even he is disappointed he couldn’t produce more results.

  370. Brian Rostron on Sun, 29th Nov 2009 10:03 am

“Al read a poem at the end of the press conference about the man in the mirror.”

Michael Jackson? Ahh, what a nice way to go out, memorializing a gifted but flawed entertainer.

No, seriously, does Groh really think that he should be proud of the way that he’s coached? He is still going to pocket $4 million over the next two years because his teams had gotten progressively worse and he needed to be fired, right? Shouldn’t someone who makes a point of praising his own integrity after a 42-13 loss refuse to accept that money from his alma mater during a dismal budget situation?
