WHS alum Brown leads Liberty to 3-0 start
Staff Report
Devon Brown’s first career double-double helped Liberty to a 63-52 win over Tulane in the opening game of the Navy Classic on Friday.
Brown scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Flames, who improved to 3-0 for the first time since the 2006-2007 season.
Brown, a 2009 graduate of Waynesboro High School, led all players in both points and rebounds and also canned three three-pointers. Avery Warley nearly fashioned a double-double of her own, finishing with nine points and 11 boards for the Lady Flames.
Liberty will meet the winner of Friday’s late contest between Loyola (Md.) and host Navy in the Navy Classic championship game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Alumni Hall, as the Lady Flames seek their fourth regular-season tournament championship in the last three seasons.
