Wikipedia has a page on the 2005 election, with a listing of all the polls. Kilgore did hold the lead in September, but it was smaller than what McDonnell has now.

I thought Rasmussen was code for FOX and if memory serves me right, Kilgore led Kaine into October before the majority came to their senses. So, these polls with less than a 1,000 participants are in my opinion, statistically inaccurate. I believe this race is to important nationally for the DNC to abandon Deeds and think that Warner will step up and be out endorsing Deeds heavily over the next month, along with Obama and Webb.
