Staunton Music Festival presents the best of Brazil

The Staunton Music Festival presents The Brazilian Weekend, a pair of lively concerts of Brazilian and Brazil-inspired music, on Saturday, Sept. 19, and Sunday, Sept. 20.

The first concert, Classically Brazil, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, features three centuries of Brazilian art music, and selections from the popular choro* and forró traditions. The second program, Reflecting Brazil, at 4 p.m. on Sunday, combines Brazilian traditional music and contemporary choral, chamber and vocal works with music by French composer Darius Milhaud and the world premiere of a jazzy new ensemble piece by Chuck Dotas.

Both concerts take place at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 214 W. Beverly St., Staunton. A large group of Brazilian and North American musicians will be on hand, including the ensemble CHORO. For more information, go to www.stauntonmusicfestival.com.

The weekend is co-produced by the Office of International Programs at James Madison University.
