Holding the line at the pump

Up and down, up and down – that’s where gas prices are right now.
“With five weeks remaining in the summer driving season, AAA expects gas prices to remain fairly stable,” said Martha M. Meade, manager of public and government affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic.

“Stability at the gas pumps, coupled with positive economic news, could lead motorists to plan last minute, end-of-season vacations. We move into August, typically the most heavily-traveled month of the year for auto travel.”

A gallon of regular unleaded in Virginia is holding steady at $2.40 as of the close of business Monday. I say holding steady because that’s where the price was a day ago, and up five cents from a week ago at this time and down nine cents from one month ago.

The average nationwide was at $2.52 a gallon as of the close of business on Monday.
