Stop the Presses | Back in the swing
Today marks the end of the 2009 Waynesboro Generals season. No playoffs this year after three straight postseason appearances, including the 2007 league championship.
You can listen to Generals co-owner John Leonard and me calling the season-ending doubleheader that begins at 2:30 p.m. with a makeup of last night’s rained-out game with the Covington Lumberjacks here.
The Generals host the Rockbridge Rapids in the season finale tonight at 7 p.m. That game will also be available on the web at the same address from above.
Other notes today:
- Also from the sports desk: We’re 90 percent of the way there to finalizing the details of a new high-school football game of the week webcast here at AugustaFreePress.com. The important part now is lining up sponsors. If you’d be interested in sponsoring the weekly webcasts, drop us a line at freepress@ntelos.net.
- I spent most of my day on Wednesday interviewing candidates for the open United Way of Greater Augusta executive-director position. I’m personally excited at the strong field of candidates that applied for the job. This was my first try at serving on an interview committee for something like this, and it was an interesting experience, to say the least. (I say was, but we still have two more interviews to conduct, so this is still something more in the present tense than past.)
- Early-bird alert: The AFP team will be out at the Augusta County Fair Aug. 11-15. Stop by our booth to sign up for our daily e-mail newsletter, and you can win from among several cool daily prize offerings, including tickets to local attractions and gift certificates to local restaurants.
