It seems to me that this story needs to be resolved, not die with a whimper, before the upcoming elections. Can we really afford to have a person who has demonstrated they will lie, cheat and steal where the voters are concerned in charge of counting our votes.

Basically, this comes down to two very simple issues – nepotism and ethics. Are city employees allowed to hand over their jobs to their successors as though they are royalty and will the city manager / city council sit by and allow this kind of criminal backroom dealing to go on just because the employees in question hold the same view as the puppetmaster behind the city manager – Frank Lucente.

Hey Frank, can’t you win an election fair and square? You bought your way onto council with your payoff to Nancy Dowdy, you swung council to your side through sleazy dealings very similar to the kind of background politics played by Down and Wooten, and one HAS to wonder if the results of the last election were as fair and honest as the “job search” held for the new head of elections. Back then, a lot of people wondered about whether the ballot boxes had been stuffed – now a lot of those people have very little doubt. Myself included.

If the city manager and city council stay out of this one, its pretty much a sure thing that we’re only getting a little piece of the story; and that the corruption went a whole lot higher than the elections head and her hand-picked replacement.

I was just reading the Lisa Wooten articles about her scam with Mary Alice Downs. I was sorta surprised by the comment that no laws had been broken.
