VCU set to introduce new hoops coach
Virginia Commonwealth didn’t wait long to find its next head basketball coach. Former Florida assistant Shaka Smith will be introduced at the Siegel Center in Richmond on Thursday as the new head man. Smart, 32, replaces Anthony Grant, himself a former Florida assistant, who left VCU last week to take the head job at Alabama.
The 11 a.m. Thursday press conference introducing Smart is open to the public free of charge. The VCU band, cheerleaders and Rodney the Ram will be on hand to kick off the Smart Era in Virginia Commonwealth basketball.
Also on Thursday, Smart will be at The Home Team Grill in Richmond from 5-7 p.m. with Greg Burton from ESPN-950 and VCU athletics director Norwood Teague to talk VCU basketball and meet and greet fans.
