BC students win scholarships


Seven Bridgewater College students are among the honorees in a statewide scholarship competition open to students in the 15-member Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges consortium.

Winning the Altria Scholarship, which provides a $5,000 award toward the student’s junior year and $5,000 toward the senior year, were sophomores Katie Diane Harding of Keysville, Va.; Tina Lowe of Roanoke, Va.; Oksana Mikutin of Richmond, Va.; and Emily Morris of Powhatan, Va. The Altria Group is the parent company of Philip Morris USA, U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co., John Middleton, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates and Philip Morris Capital Corp.

Rachel Sepelyak, a junior from Fairfax, Va., won a $2,500 from HRH, the eighth largest insurance intermediary in the United States.

Juniors Matthew E. Lambert of Providence Forge, Va., and Cameron McCormick of Stuarts Draft, Va., each won a $2,500 Witt Mares Scholarship. Witt Mares is a leading accounting and business consulting firm that serves the Mid Atlantic region as well as specialty areas nationwide and internationally.

The VFIC is a nonprofit fundraising partnership supporting the programs and students of 15 leading private Virginia colleges: Bridgewater College, Emory & Henry College, Hampden-Sydney College, Hollins University, Lynchburg College, Mary Baldwin College, Marymount University, Randolph-Macon College, Randolph College, Roanoke College, Shenandoah University, Sweet Briar College, University of Richmond, Virginia Wesleyan College, and Washington and Lee University.
