I shared this news because I didn't have info on the efforts of Dems regarding video streaming of House floor proceedings when I wrote the short story on the speaker's decision to make the video streaming available on the 'Net earlier. The news release from the speaker's office didn't indicate anything about previous efforts from either side. We were left with the impression that he had initiated this move himself basically. We're getting a more complete picture now. Grandstanding is involved on both sides. Thanks, Steve, for helping us get to a more complete picture.

Chris,

Actually before Delegate Englin introduced this measure, I actually introduced HR 45 in the 2007 Session to accomplish this with legislation that would have set up the proceedures. Republicans have been working for video streaming of the House as well. So actually it is not all that surprising that the Speaker has been listening to many of us regarding opening up video streaming. To Ward's credit he has been working on this issue to, and has had a number of similar issues, Del. Englin is new to this issue relatively, but he is a new Member of the House. Unfortunately Ward is trying to make it a political issue as usual!
