Kaine to become DNC chairman

Multiple reports have Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine in line to being named the chairman of the Democratic National Committee this week.
Politico.com is reporting Sunday evening that Kaine had originally indicated that he was not interested in taking on the post, but changed his mind when President-elect Barack Obama intervened and personally asked him to take on the job.

The Washington Post is reporting that Kaine will serve in the job in a part-time capacity as he finishes up the final year of his single four-year term as governor and will assume the duties of DNC chair full-time in January 2010.

Sources told the Post that a formal announcement on the Kaine appointment is expected later this week.
