The FlyLady | The power of a tune

December 4, 2008 by chrisgraham

Did you ever get a tune caught in your head, and you couldn’t get rid of it? It plays over and over like a stuck record for those of you who are old enough to remember those. We have tunes like that stuck in our heads, too. They are those negative words that have been preached at us for years. You know those ugly words that you have used to beat yourself up with long after they have come out of a so-called loved one’s mouth!

The song lyric that is stuck in my head is a new song written by Taylor Swift. She performed “Love Story” at the CMAs the other night. Taylor is like every young woman, and the lyrics of her songs speak to our innocence and the desire to be rescued by a man and live happily ever after. Jennifer Nettles won an award for her song “Stay.” Its message is about a woman begging a man to stay. “Don’t I give you what you need!” In the end she realized she doesn’t need him. Carrie Underwood sang her new song, too. Those lyrics were stuck in Michele’s head, “Just a dream!”

When we are babies, we dream of having the perfect love story, we just want to be loved. Then we wake up one day, and we can’t believe our love story is a bad dream. We have the power to wake up from that bad dream and change! I am not talking about divorce, either. We can be loved, and the first step comes from loving you. Because when we are FLYing, we rescue ourselves. Loving yourself is like shining your sink. Are you giving yourself what you need?

We have the ability to change the way we talk to ourselves. We can use music to do this! Music has the power to build us up! It can evoke a good memory, or it can make a new one. The tunes can get your feet moving, or they can calm you! You are in charge of your playlist!

I have songs that bring a smile to my face when I hear them. With iTunes, we can build our own playlists for all types of moods. I love mood music! You don’t have to have an iPod to use iTunes to manage your music.

I have built playlists for all types of moods. This is one of the reasons that we have produced music for you! Our first CD, “FLY,” was composed by Amy Lacey. The songs are peppy and give you hope! Isn’t that all that any of us need to keep us going! Hope for a better day!

For our second CD, we wanted to help you give your children the tools that they would need to FLY! We wanted them to grow up with routines. The beauty of these songs is that they help us replace those negative words with lyrics that pick you up and fill your heart with love for you! At the same time they get you doing things! The songs give you direction as well as give your children fun ways to get their routines done without you nagging!

Music is a tool to reach the other side of your brain. It helps to replace the negativity floating around in the thinking part of your head. Music FLYs right into mind in a fun way to empower you! You don’t even realize it is happening. What have you got to lose? Why Not Today! As I typed those words my iPod roulette played this song. I think that is a God Breeze for you and me that I am on the right track with my essay! Why Not Today!
