JMU included in prestigious international photography program

James Madison University is one of 14 colleges and universities in the United States chosen to participate in a photography awards program sponsored by Sony.

Student Focus is open to students at 60 institutions of higher learning on six continents. The program, in its second year, has as its central theme for its 2009 competition the environment.

“We are delighted that James Madison University has been chosen to compete for such an esteemed award. We hope to make the most of this wonderful opportunity,” said Corinne J. Diop, a professor of art and art history at JMU.

The overall student winner will be announced, along with the winners of the professional and amateur categories, at the Sony World Photography Awards ceremony at the Palais des Festival in April.

The Student Focus prize is over 45,000 Euros’ worth of photography equipment for the winning institution, courtesy of the sponsor, Sony.
