I’m willing to take a chance on just anyone at this junction. Losing to Duke by 28 points! Come on now, this is not acceptable. Grobe would probably do a fine job gere. he seems to have a good personality and the jo he has done at Wake is excellent. Why not?

Are we certain Al Davis is still alive? It’s been months since his last audio tape, and the hardliners in the Raiders organization recently restarted their nuclear program.

I think that John Casteen and Al Davis should get together (you know that this must happen all of the time going back to Casteen’s Berkeley days) and exchange coaches straight-up, Groh for Kiffin, thus removing the need for expensive buy-outs. U.Va. gets a young coach (33) known for working with quarterbacks and offenses with collegiate experience at USC and the Raiders get an experienced pro coach who can make that dysfunctional franchise a bit more sane.

Therein lies the problem. By year three, Jim Grobe will be 60 years old. Would that we had hired him 8 years ago. Would that we had canned Groh and hired him 2 years ago. But we didn’t.

We could do worse than Grobe, but I think the cut off age should be 55, the younger the better all things being equal.

So why didn’t U.Va. hire Tom O’Brien instead of Al Groh? Or is that along the lines of asking why U.Va. didn’t hire Dave Odom instead of Jeff Jones?

It’s nice to see a light at the end of the Groh tunnel. I remember that a lot of us were excited at the end of Welsh’s tenure thinking that here we were getting a new coach and an alum to boot. Surely, the recruiting would be amazing and the teams equally so. Unfortunately, it didn’t pan out that way. Just like old sweaty-faced Pete Gillen didn’t work out either. We can only hope that they get him out quick and easy and SOON!
