No offense to Jim G., but if I'm McCain, I'd ask him to stop talking about me like that. Because I want to win VA, not lose in a historic landslide.

The headline in the ad refers to an Associated Press story published on Nov. 8, 2005. The tax increase mentioned in the ad dates to 2004. That's curious, quoting a story that was reporting on an 18-month-old story.

Also curious: There's no mention of the tax increase being a bipartisan tax increase. Republicans had to go along for the tax increase to pass. The GOP was in control of both houses of the Virginia General Assembly.

Also, having asked Warner specifically about the federal budget, it is misleading, to say the least, that he supports higher spending in Washington. It is not misleading to say that he supports higher taxes, though it should be pointed out that the higher taxes that he favors comes in the form of the sunset of the Bush tax cuts on the superwealthy. Which is to say, unless you make more than $250,000 a year individually or $500,000 a year as a married couple, it's not going to impact you.

So Gilmore is assuming by this ad that Virginia will go to McCain and then naturally, of course, to him or he's hoping he can gain votes by aligning himself with McCain. I think it's interesting that his first ad is McCain/Gilmore good ... Obama/Warner bad.
