The Barack Obama campaign has a new TV that began airing in Virginia and several other battleground states beginning today that highlights the Obama tax plan that the campaign says will cut taxes for middle-class families three times as much as the McCain tax plan and also brings attention to McCain’s inclusion of tax breaks for corporations that move jobs overseas and for Big Oil companies already making record profits. You can watch the ad here at augustafreepress.com.

Barack Obama’s ad tells the big story. The true big story. He ad is more in line with what is happening in American homes and families and this Country.
Big oil companies getting tax breaks, businesses being rewarded for shipping overseas taking jobs aways from Americans. How shameful on McCains part.
McCain not wanting to even set a timeline to pull our men and woman out of Iraq and send more troops to where they are needed is another mark against McCain.
Enough is enough.
Good advertisement versus the McCain TV ads
I am a survivor of sexual abuse. I was abused when I was
seven years old by a Catholic priest. For the past 36 years,
the abuse has infected my mind, body and soul. Although I
am fortunate to recover each year, it is always there; lurking.
Senator Mccain’s attack on Senator Obama in reference to
“sex education” for kindergartners is tantamount to aiding
and abetting pedophiles. The ad and his endorsement are an
incognizant attack on the innocent children who have
suffered crimes of sexual predators.
Senator McCain’s advertisement shows little regard for thoughtful
politics and exemplifies the maverick attitude of shoot first
and ask questions later.
Senator McCain apparently leads by the adage, “Ignorance is
bliss”. If Senator McCain, took the time to learn about the
child sexual abuse issue, he would have been enlightened
by the following facts:
The statistics are shocking
* 1 in 4 girls is sexually abused before the age of 18. (96)
* 1 in 6 boys is sexually abused before the age of 18. (96)
* 1 in 5 children are solicited sexually while on the internet. (30, 87)
* Nearly 70% of all reported sexual assaults (including assaults on adults)
occur to children ages 17 and under. (76)
* An estimated 39 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse exist in America today. (1)
Even within the walls of their own homes, children are at risk for sexual abuse
* 30-40% of victims are abused by a family member. (2, 44, 76)
* Another 50% are abused by someone outside of the family
whom they know and trust.
* Approximately 40% are abused by older or larger children whom they know. (1, 44)
* Therefore, only 10% are abused by strangers.
Programs like Good Touch / Bad Touch (trademark) run by
childhelp.org teach children to recognize and report sexual
abuse. Education is one of the key means of reducing this
heinous crime. Protection of children is a universal goal, to
which we should all strive. Senator McCain by endorsing this
advertisement has bartered the safety of our children for his
own political gain.
Many Americans have been unfortunately affected by this
important issue either directly or indirectly.
Please give consideration of this issue when deciding
the course of the next four years.
Senator McCain espouses accountability and personal
responsibility. I encourage Senator McCain to have
conviction in his words; honor in his actions; truth in his
thoughts and to denounce the advertisement.
In response to Jon Y let me say that I am truly sorry for what you have endured in your past. I very deeply feel that no child or adult for that matter should ever have to endure that type of abuse. But, I hope that you do not fault McCain for the fact that he does not support sex education for kindergartners. I myself do not agree with this and probably would not allow my child to attend the class if they had it at her school. I do not feel that the public school is the place that my child should learn about this type of thing. I teach this type of education to my child. I am her mother and her father and I have told her about the good/bad touch and that if anyone ever does try that with her what she is to do. We have also told her the things that those type people will try to tell her to keep her quiet such as, “if you tell anyone I will kill you or your parents etc.” but we explained to her that this is just a scare tactic to keep children from telling. So no I don’t want no teacher at school talking to my child about this type thing. I am not in no way or form faulting you or your parents because I do not even know you or them but I wonder if you were taught about such things when you were small? Did you mom or dad tell you about the good/bad touch and if anyone tried to touch your private spots what to do etc.. Again I am very much against this type of abuse and instead of looking at teaching it in the public school system I think we need to work on stiffer punishment for the ones who commit these things. Like maybe the death sentence. Then the next person who thinks about doing this will remember what happened to the one who done it before and might decide he/she better not do it. Again I’m sorry for your past and I am very happy to hear that you are on the recovery road. My vote is still for McCain. God Bless.
Actually both my parents were in the mental health field. One had a PhD specializing in psychoanalysis. In the 70s this problem was not known.
I agree that all sex ed should have an opt-out provision.
It is great that you educate your children, but many do not. In my neighborhood last year there was a boy scout helper that was 18 and convicted of sexual abuse.
Most people who commit sexual abuse were victims themselves, but fortunately most victims do not become perpetrators. The cycle needs to stop via awareness; education.
Because it is a big problem, there needs to be education for parents that don’t have the ability to adequately address it.
I think people need to vote for whom they want because this is a great free country.
I am voting for Obama because of this issue and also the economy.
Because I don’t think McCain will be for the middle class; his tax policy favors the rich
God Bless America
