Fifth not ‘safe’ for Goode, pundits say

The Fifth District is no longer safe for Virgil Goode. That’s the word from Congressional Quarterly, the Cook Political Report, and Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball, all of which have moved the Fifth Congressional District race between the Republican Goode and Democrat Tom Perriello from “safe Republican” to “likely Republican.”

Which means, of course, that Goode is still a favorite to win re-election on Nov. 4. But you have to consider this a moral victory, if nothing else, for Perriello.

“It’s great to see the pundits recognizing what we’ve known all along: that the working families of the Virginia Fifth District are ready for a new leader who will fight for them in Washington,” Perriello siad. “This race is receiving national attention because voters are responding to our positive agenda of job growth and workforce development, relief at the pump, and responsible solutions to the crisis in Iraq.”
