A free showing of “The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil” is being sponsored by Valley Market in Staunton next week.

The screening is set for Tuesday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Dixie Theater in Downtown Staunton.

“The Power of Community” tells the story of how Cuba made the transition form a highly mechanized industrial agriculture system to a system emphasizing organic farming and local urban gardens.

Donations offered at the event will benefit Valley Market, a developing grocery cooperative, and the Staunton Performing Arts Center.

  1. What an opportunity for all of us. I have seen the documentary and can’t wait for another dose of true inspiration. There’s a line about the importance of political independence, which requires economic independence, which requires energy independence. Cuba has benefitted, ironically, from its inability to outsource its basic needs. Thanks, Chris, for spreading the word.
