Rasoul secures nomination

We can now stop calling Sam Rasoul the presumptive Democratic Party congressional nominee in the Sixth Congressional District.

Rasoul received 34 delegates in caucuses in Augusta County, Harrisonburg and Lynchburg Monday night, pushing him past the 74 delegates that he needed to secure the Democratic Party nomination in the Sixth District.

Rasoul’s nomination was all but assured with the departure of Augusta County Democrat Drew Richardson from the race on April 3.

Rasoul will challenge Republican incumbent Bob Goodlatte in the November general election.
