Vick gets 23 months

A federal judge has sentenced former Newport News high-school football star and Virginia Tech football star Michael Vick to 23 months in prison for his role in the operations a dogfighting operation in Surry County.
Prosecutors had recommended a sentence on the low end of an 18- to 24-month time frame that fit federal sentencing guidelines for the charges.
Vick voluntarily began serving his sentence last month – ostensibly in hopes of giving himself an opportunity to revive his NFL career as early as possible.
It appears that Vick will miss at least the 2008 and 2009 NFL seasons – and a suspension from the NFL for the 2010 season is also a possibility down the road.
