A lot of fans disguised as empty seats. A lot.

  2. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 6:56 pm

This game is on ESPNU - which means most of you out there can’t watch it on TV.
    Thanks, Comcast.

  3. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 6:58 pm

It’s Nov. 27, and Virginia is already playing its seventh game.
This dates me - but I remember as a second-year in 1991 when our season opener was after Thanksgiving.

    What2Watch4
    #22 Michael Thompson - 15.3 ppg, 52.9 percent 3-pt FG
    #20 Craig Moore - 12.8 ppg

BTW … media pregame meal left a lot to be desired. They ran out of food three times, and all I ended up getting was a bowl of fruit.

  6. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:02 pm

    Neato - a laser show!

  7. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:03 pm

Looks like some of the fans took off their empty-seat disguises.

  8. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:07 pm

Virginia is going to be susceptible to teams that zone.

  9. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:09 pm

The success of the three-point game could be deceptive. This team shoots threes well when it drives into the lane and dishes back out to open jump shooters. Not when it passes the ball around the perimeter and has to shoot contested threes.

  10. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:09 pm

    Definitely a Northwestern pace.

  11. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:12 pm

    Virginia 12-7, 14:48/1st
    Virginia has four threes.
The pace is starting to look more like a Virginia pace.
Smile and Smooch Cam. See ya later.

  12. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:14 pm

Some of the fans put their empty-seat disguises back on.

  13. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:15 pm

That’s at least three Virginia turnovers at the top of the key.

  14. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:16 pm

Two by Singletary, one by Baker.

  15. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:19 pm

    UVa. 20-11, 12:04/1st
I want to get mad at Virginia for not dribble-penetrating, but they’ve made six threes so far.

  16. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:22 pm

    Virginia 26-11, 10:42
    Virginia has made eight threes.
I don’t expect them all to fall - but then there was that Gonzaga game last year. I think they’re still making threes in that one, and it’s been over for 10 months.
Eventually, they will have to do something in the lane.

  17. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:25 pm

    Fans chanting “We want chicken!”
Raising Cane’s has a promotion - Virginia makes nine threes, everybody gets free chicken.
With 30 minutes to go, I think they’ll get their chicken.

  18. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:29 pm

Joseph will be in the doghouse …
He had a breakaway dunk - and he decided to do a reverse that ended up a little short of the mark.
    Ugh.
    Virginia 29-17, 7:30/1st

  19. Crystal on November 27th, 2007 7:33 pm

Did I miss it? What kind of food did you have pre-game? No ESPNU for me … boo.

  20. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:33 pm

SS doesn’t look right. He seems a step slow tonight.

  21. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:34 pm

    The Chicken Ball.

  22. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:35 pm

Question - why doesn’t Mike Scott start?

  23. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:36 pm

Aggressive Northwestern D - Singletary pump-faked, dribbled in, and still shot a three.

  24. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:38 pm

    Virginia has 10 3s.
And the thing is, it seems to make sense that they’re shooting them. Northwestern is giving them the shots and overplaying the dribble penetration.
    Virginia 39-20, 3:53/1st

  25. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:41 pm

The three barrage continues. This one goes to 11.

  26. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:44 pm

    Virginia 50-25, 1:33/1st

  27. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:45 pm

That stuff I said earlier about needing to dribble penetrate more … forget that.

  28. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:47 pm

    Virginia 54, Northwestern 29, half
    Virginia made a bazillion threes.
More when we get the stats in a few.
    I’m starving.

  29. Crystal on November 27th, 2007 7:49 pm

Starving? Didn’t you get food before the game? If not, get you one of those greasy subs there at the half. Seems like this game will be an easy win for Virginia.

  30. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:58 pm

    Virginia 19-31 FG
    12-20 3-pt FG

    Northwestern 11-25 FG
    5-15 3-pt FG

    Virginia 19-11 rebounding advantage
Virginia 13 assists on 19 made baskets

    Mamadi Diane 14 points (4-5 3-pt FG)
    Calvin Baker 13 points (5-5 FG, 3-3 3-pt FG)
Sean Singletary 6 points, 7 assists

  31. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 7:59 pm

See above for reasons re: starving.
Basically, they ran out of food (and no, it wasn’t Tucker McLaughlin’s fault).

  32. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 8:02 pm

To put 12-20 3-pt FG into perspective - that’s 36 points on 20 shots, or the equivalent of 90 percent shooting from the field on those 20 shots.

  33. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 8:09 pm

    Virginia 60-31, 15:50/2nd
Question - why did we get stuck with friggin’ Northwestern?

  34. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 8:14 pm

And in the role of The Bull in a China Shop … Lars Mikalauskas.

  35. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 8:16 pm

    Diane 20 points, 6-8 3-pt FG

  36. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 8:17 pm

    Virginia 70-37, 13:04/2nd
The crowd is into the 70. Leitao is into the 37.

  37. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 8:19 pm

Question - do Cavs get 100?
    70 points in 27 minutes = 104 points (?) in 40 minutes

  38. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 8:33 pm

Dinner of Champions - two hot dogs and a bottled water.
    Virginia 79-46, 7:25/2nd
The pace is back under 100 - around 97.

  39. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 8:34 pm

Virginia win here gives ACC 2-0 advantage in The Challenge.
GT leads Indiana 51-49 in second half, FSU is up at the half on Minnesota.

  40. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 8:39 pm

Singletary just shot his first (and probably last) free throw of the game. He came in averaging nearly 8 FTA per game.

  41. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 8:41 pm

Zeglinski doubles his scoring for the season.
    Virginia 90-48, 4:16/2nd

  42. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 8:42 pm

Andy Burns is about to make his earliest career entry.

  43. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 8:46 pm

Andy Burns scores - crowd reduced to tears.

  44. chrisgraham on November 27th, 2007 8:49 pm

That will do it from here. Check out tomorrow’s “SportsDominion Show” for a recap of tonight’s game.

  45. scott on December 2nd, 2007 10:31 pm

Come on complaining about the food! I can’t believe Rich Murray graces you with a press credential.

  46. chrisgraham on December 3rd, 2007 12:52 pm

I used to work in the sports department at the NV with a Scott German. One and the same?

  47. Scott on December 10th, 2007 4:33 pm

That comment was not at a jab at you. It used to be that the U.Va. was very anti-internet sites and the issuing of press credentials. I guess he is starting to get the picture now.

  48. chrisgraham on December 10th, 2007 6:48 pm

I didn’t assume it was a jab. I just wanted to make sure I had the right Scott in mind!
The folks at UVa. have been pretty good to us over the years. I would say it was 2005 when we first were credentialed for football, and then we did basketball in ‘06-’07 and then again this year. They’ve also had The Sabre and CavCorner there for at least that long - funny thing, we usually sit together on press row, The Internet Guys, and I don’t think it’s by accident.
