WINNERS: Fans of Virginia and Virginia Tech
Finally, the big game after Thanksgiving means something.
Virginia’s win over Wake Forest on Saturday basically sealed the deal – the winner of the Nov. 24 game in Charlottesville between UVa. and Virginia Tech will represent the Coastal Division in the ACC title game in Jacksonville.
And the way things have been going in the ACC this year, I’d say that the winner has a better-than-even shot of winning the league and representing the ACC in the Orange Bowl.
If only this can become an annual tradition …
WINNER: Jameel Sewell
Make it five fourth-quarter wins for the sophomore – who’s making John Elway’s numbers look bad, seriously.
WINNER: Sean Glennon
If Glennon isn’t the starter for the remainder of 2007, then Frank Beamer isn’t as smart as we think he is.
LOSERS: Peter Lalich and Tyrod Taylor
Can you say “burned redshirt”?
LOSER: Bruce Arena
Another high-profile job, another high-profile failure for the former UVa. soccer coach.
Want to come back and go for the one for the thumb?
LOSER: Washington stays alive, but …
At 5-3, you’d think the Redskins were in good shape for a playoff run in 2007.
But then you consider that their 5-3 record only qualifies them for third in the four-team NFC East.
And it doesn’t get any easier for the ‘Skins – with two games against Dallas (7-1) and a road contest at New York (6-2) still on the schedule.
Doing some quick math, it looks like Washington will have to go at least 5-3 down the stretch to sneak in as a wild card.
I’m not sure that it can be done.
